Consultation

What is Education Consultation?

Educational consultation is a collaborative process in which I work with individuals, such as parents, educators, or schools, to address educational concerns, provide guidance, and develop strategies to support learning and development. I bring 25 years of expertise in education experience and work closely with the individuals involved to assess the needs, identify challenges, and develop practical solutions to the challenges experienced by individuals.

The goals of educational consultation may vary depending on the specific context and needs of the individuals involved. Here are some common aspects of educational consultation:

1. Needs assessment: I gather information about the individual's educational concerns, challenges, and goals. This may involve reviewing academic records, conducting observations, or administering assessments to understand the student's strengths and areas for improvement.

2.
Collaborative problem-solving: I work collaboratively with parents, teachers, and other professionals involved in the student's education to identify and analyze challenges. I help to facilitate discussions and provide guidance to develop effective strategies and interventions.

3.
Individualized interventions: Based on the identified needs, I help design individualized interventions and educational plans tailored to the student's specific requirements. This may involve suggesting teaching strategies, accommodations, modifications, or additional support services.

4.
Support and coaching: I provide ongoing support and coaching to teachers, parents, or other individuals involved in the educational process. This may include training on specific instructional techniques, behavior management strategies, or ways to support the student's learning and development.

Educational consultation aims to empower individuals involved in the educational process by providing them with expert guidance, practical strategies, and support to enhance the student's educational experience and outcomes.

Consultation Services

My goal is to help you to navigate, support and advocate for your child.  The world of education is complex and full of jargon and processes that are often unclear and confusing.  Knowledge of these process and the language help get the services and supports that children, adolescents and young adult need to be successful.

Basic

This is a free service.  During our 30 minute conversation (call, virtual or in-person), we will talk about your concerns and how I might be of help.  When this is a good fit, we will discuss what service make sense and how we can move forward.  There are also time where additional services are not needed because our initial conversation was sufficient.

Comprehensive

A comprehensive consultation includes a complete review of your records, assessments, background history and current presenting concern.  A critical part of this process is defining a goal and reviewing the progress made toward that goal achievement. This is a process that will occur over time and may include meeting attendance, calls with teachers and supports.  We will collaboratively decide what is needed to help attain your defined goal.

Review

As part of this collaboration is a review of your records and discussion of next steps to attain your goals for your child.  This includes devising a plan for you and your student. This is often a single session conversation but can be repeated to review or revise your plan.

Assessment

An assessment consultation is for individuals who have questions or concerns about completed assessments.  As part of this process I will review past assessments and discuss your concerns and goals.  This can help determine if you need additional assessment or if the assessments you have are sufficient and perhaps what other information might be needed (if any).
